Canada will extend its current border measures through September to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and its variants from international travel.

The federal government announced Wednesday (June 29) that it will continue to keep its current health measures in place, including the use of the ArriveCAN app, until Sept. 30.

For fully vaccinated travellers, the pause on mandatory random coronavirus testing will continue at all airports until mid-July. Mandatory random testing will continue at land border points of entry, with no changes, however.

Partially vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers, unless exempt, will continue to test on day one and day eight of their 14-day quarantine.

Travel Canada: testing moving outside of airports

Canada is currently moving airport testing outside of airports to decrease crowding as traveller volume increases.

The government is in the process of moving COVID-19 testing for air travellers to select test provider stores, pharmacies, or by virtual appointment. The data is used to understand the "current level and trends of importation" of the virus into the country and the risk to Canadians.

Additionally, Canada uses the data from border testing to inform decisions on the safe easing of border measures.

New ArriveCAN feature for Vancouver travellers

Travellers to airports in Vancouver and Toronto will now be able to save time using a new feature in the ArriveCAN app.

Travellers arriving at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Lester B. Pearson International Airport (YYZ) can save time by using the new "Advance CBSA Declaration" optional feature in ArriveCAN.

Travellers to these two airports may submit their customs and immigration declaration in advance of arrival, reducing the amount of time they spend in the airport.

Currently, only travellers to YVR and YYZ's terminals one and three may use the new feature; it will be made available at other airports across Canada as the year continues.
