Q&A with Christian Hamm, Forty Under 40 Winner 2020; Co-founder and COO, SiteMax Systems Inc., Age 35

Who or what is responsible for your work ethic?

Early mornings and my parents. Growing up, I was landscaping an acreage and picking up golf balls at 12 or 13.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Right now, golf podcasts and following featured groups on GolfTV.

What is the best book you would recommend?

Built to Last, Jim Collins and Jerry Porras.

Now that you’re entering your 40s, what goals have you set for yourself?

I’m getting the itch to build buildings again. I plan to do more of that into my 40s.

Choose one of these five childhood career dreams: Rock star, star athlete, prime minister, astronaut, detective.

Always wanted to play in the NHL or on the PGA tour. Still think I can make it, as a caddie.

Name your happiest place.

Dinner table with my wife and three kids or Palm Springs.

What was your toughest business or professional decision?

Transitioning my career away from construction project management to construction management software and then doubling down on it.

Advice you would give your 20-year-old self?

Stay the course – life is a marathon. Move quickly when required but always with a vision for where you are going.

What is your best habit?

Most days I’m up at 4:00 a.m. It feels good to accomplish a few things while the world is asleep.

Tell us one improbable fact about yourself.

I journal. My construction journey is documented in dozens of notebooks since my first day as assistant PM at Northland Properties.

Best piece of advice ever received?

There has been a lot. To be honest, I get great daily metaphors from my business partner, James Faulkner.

What career highlight are you most proud of?

SiteMax. We have a great team, product and customer base so I am thrilled to continue my career in construction this way.
