E-commerce companies with B.C. customers are set to soon have a new option to distribute customer orders.
Technology-driven distribution company Darwynn plans to take possession of its new 113,000-square-foot distribution centre in Surrey on Nov. 1, and start installing conveyor systems, robotic technology and interior equipment.
The company has other distribution centres in Toronto and in Calgary and it plans to be able to hire around 100 full-time workers and start operating at 19225 32nd Avenue in Surrey by early 2023.
Coquitlam-based CEO Reza Bafandeh told BIV that his Scarborough, Ontario-based company distributes products for small, medium and large businesses. There is no minimum amount of inventory that a retailer will be required to store at the distribution centre, he said.
"For a smaller company 15 cases might be considered wholesale, and business to business, but to a large company, several cases might be a typical business to consumer order or an internal transfer," he said.
"We have a very cost-effective model."
He said the facility is going to be built in phases, and his plan is to have the site at capacity as volume grows, and to be adopted to include state-of-the-art automation.
Darwynn does not sell retail products to customers as its entire business is distributing other companies' products.
