WorkSafeBC, police investigating workplace death in Belcarra

Coquitlam RCMP and WorkSafeBC are investigating a workplace death in Belcarra.

Police say the incident took place at around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28 in the village north of Port Moody, near Belcarra Bay Road and Salish Road.

BC Ambulance and fire crews were also dispatched to the scene.

Alexandra Skinner, manager of government and media relations for WorkSafeBC, said the agency was notified at around 4:25 p.m.

“The primary purpose of our investigation is to determine the cause of the incident, including any contributing factors, so that similar incidents can be prevented from happening in the future,” she said, adding, “We are not able to discuss any details of the incident while our investigation is underway.”

Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Alexa Hodgins also declined to provide further details pending the next of kin notification; however, a Tri-City News reader said the man, a native of Mexico, was cleaning windows with an extension pole when it hit the power lines.
