Chief justices and senior members of the judiciaries of the 10 countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) met last week in Vietnam to discuss how their courts can work together to protect the environment and rights of indigenous peoples. The roundtable was organized by Vietnam’s Supreme People’s Court and the Asian Development Bank. Opening the meeting, Vietnam’s Chief Judge Truong Hoa Binh said global environmental pollution is worsening and the courts should combine their efforts to deal with the challenge.
