Bangladesh: Factory deaths fail to slow garment industry business

A fatal garment factory fire in Bangladesh in April, in which about 1,100 people died, and several other deaths in a factory collapse have not reduced enthusiasm for the country as a manufacturing centre among international clothing retailers, local manufacturers reported at the recent Bangladesh Apparel and Textile Exposition in Dhaka.

Several local manufacturers told Bangladeshi newspapers they had expected foreign retailers to shy away after the disasters. But that has not happened, largely because of competitive manufacturing prices.
