A trade delegation from British Columbia’s food and wine sector is currently attending a tradeshow in Mumbai, India, to promote the province’s agrifood industry, the Ministry of International Trade announced September 25.

The Annapoorna – World of Food India trade show will bring together over 250 exhibitors and 8,000 delegates, including supermarket chains, restaurants, hotels, distributors and buyers.

Food consumption patterns in India are changing, which could lead to new trading opportunities for B.C. as consumers demand a wider range of products, the ministry said in a release.

“The B.C. government continues to work hard to build new markets in Asia, and India represents a huge opportunity for B.C. food producers to increase their sales,” said Minister of Agriculture Pat Pimm.

“Families around the world choose B.C. products for their reputation as high-quality food that can be served with confidence, and I’m sure that buyers attending the Annapoorna – World of Food India trade show will do the same.”

Some of B.C.’s trade representatives include:

  • Kalala Organic Estate Winery;
  • Everland Natural Foods Inc.;
  • BC Blueberry Council;
