Vancouver immigrant settlement society S.U.C.C.E.S.S. has recruited Queenie Choo to be its next CEO, starting August 1.
Choo is currently executive director of the continuing care integrated services division of Alberta Health Services.
Born in Hong Kong, Choo immigrated to Canada 32 years ago to work as a nurse. She will now head an organization that is one of the largest social service agencies in B.C. It has a variety of programs to help immigrants settle, learn English, get counselling, housing and employment.
Choo will be new to B.C. but not to the inner workings of S.U.C.C.E.S.S., having served as a surveyor for Accreditation Canada on two separate occasions – first when Lillian To was CEO, in 2005, and then when Tung Chan was head of the organization in 2008.
More recently, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. has been headed by Thomas Tam.
Tam told Business in Vancouver in December that he was resigning because he wanted to do something new.
The organization then contracted international search firm Odgers Berndtson to seek a quality replacement.
