India: Nuclear liability law raises industry ire

Indian companies are fighting back against a nuclear liability law making suppliers responsible for defects in any components they supply.

Indian companies are fighting back against a nuclear liability law making suppliers responsible for defects in any components they supply.

The Indian government in 2010 introduced the law as part of the legitimization of its nuclear industry.

Companies from the United States, France and Russia have already complained about the law and now domestic companies are protesting.

They claim they should not have to insure themselves against liability because everything they supply is made to designs, specifications and quality requirements drawn up by the Nuclear Power Corp. of India (NPCI).
