South Korea: Identity theft rampant in South Korea

A report to South Korea’s Ministry of Security and Public Administration says that more than half the country’s 51 million people claim to have been victims of identity theft.

A report to South Korea’s Ministry of Security and Public Administration says that more than half the country’s 51 million people claim to have been victims of identity theft.

The report says nearly 30 million people have complained of having their personal details stolen in each of the past two years.

There is speculation one problem may be how few family names there are in South Korea, making it easier for hackers to acquire identity details.

About half the population has the surnames Kim, Lee or Park.
