A common sight on the streets of Hanoi in the last few days has been three-wheeled motorcycle delivery carts rushing around and laden with large ochna wild peach trees in pots. The trees with their yellow blossoms are a favourite decoration for the Tet lunar new year celebrations in this part of Vietnam. But they clutter up space for the rest of the year, and so those fortunate enough to own a peach tree send them off to be cared for by gardening services for the rest of the year. An ochna tree is not a cheap pet. A tree worth up to 50 million dong ($2,400) costs up to 20 million dong ($1,000) to be looked after until the next Tet.
