- Description
- Flipping back to the NDP in 2013 after almost 2 decades of representation by the BC Liberals (including one Christy Clark), Burnaby East has a strong Dipper pedigree. Federally home to NDP luminaries like Tommy Douglas and Svend Robinson, union organizer Reah Arora hopes to continue the riding’s orange streak.
- The eastern side of the riding tends to be more progressive - from the SFU campus on Burnaby Mountain down Gaglardi Way as it snakes around, then running along Lougheed Highway until it hits the border with the Tri-Cities.
- As for the BC Liberals, they retained some strength in northwest pockets east of Sperling Avenue and around Burnaby Lake. Of interest is how the federal Liberals in these more high-income areas break - will the BCNDP win them over, or will they gravitate to the BC Conservatives?
