- Description:
- Thanks to booming population growth around Metrotown in the past decade, Burnaby has finally gotten itself a fifth riding. Burnaby South-Metrotown combines everything west of Griffith in the old Burnaby-Edmonds with polls south of Kingsway, primarily the eponymous Metrotown neighbourhood.
- To win this riding for the first time, the NDP has fielded lawyer Paul Choi, while the Conservatives are running realtor Han Lee. Also in the fray are Meiling Chia, former School Board trustee and previously the BC United candidate for the riding, and Carrie McLaren of the Greens, a co-op manager.
- While the politics around the Metrotown redevelopment seem settled for now, keep an eye on the voting habits of new residents, many of whom moved in during the past few years. If their affluence and income informs their voting intentions, it could make it a tighter race than expected for the New Democrats.
