- Description:
- Home turf for NDP rising star Ravi Kahlon since 2017, Delta North will be a test for just how far Kahlon can go. The Housing Minister and face of many a reform since Eby took power in 2017, he’s going up against businessman Raj Veauli of the Conservatives and web developer Nick Dickinson-Wilde of the Greens.
- This seat has never been truly safe for the NDP. In fact, it’s gone back and forth between them and the BC Liberals since the turn of the century! For the New Democrats, the north and eastern parts of the riding tend to be more favourable to the party. Most residents closer to Whalley and along 120 Street have lower incomes and are more likely to live in low-rise apartments or duplexes. The BC Liberals, on the other hand, find more strength among affluent Sunshine Hill and west of 112 in general.
- For Ravi, this election will be important. Much as Eby cemented his status as a rising star in the party by crushing his BC Liberal opponent by 20 points in 2017, Kahlon should hope to put on a stellar showing as well in order to deter strong challengers. The Conservatives will be spending more time on the offensive in Surrey anyways.
