Managing partner and co-founder, Capital Event Management
Age 39
What career highlight are you most proud of?
Risking everything I had to start CEM based on my intuition. I am most proud of seeing there is a higher purpose in my industry. I get to be a part of creating great results for my clients knowing CEM is instrumental in helping develop personal relationships that will last a lifetime. That to me is priceless.
What has been your toughest business or professional decision to date?
I was managing partner of two companies at the same time and I really had a passion for both. It came time to make a decision to focus on one and let the other dissolve. CEM was the choice. If it was not for my co-founding partner being available at the time, I may have gone the other route, but it was meant to be him and me.
How do you lead?
In the beginning I was driven by logic and in and out of my head a lot, but my core values and morals have always been very sound. Now I focus on my own personal growth and try to lead with my heart, hoping that my team sees that and comes for the ride. Serving people means everything to me. I love waking up and being a leader.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned in business?
Many, many lessons. The most obvious lesson is the one I continue to keep working on and that is to be less reactive and be a better listener. All my mistakes in the past have been a reaction versus a response.
Best piece of advice ever received?
Keep going, never stop—from a book I read to my son every night and it really hits home for me. There has been plenty of other good advice—this just sums it up.
What is your definition of success?
This has shifted over the years but I truly believe that now the ability to help serve others makes me successful, and today I am in a position to do that and also grow into someone that will be able to do more of it. I like the idea of this.
What are you most passionate about outside of work?
I am most passionate about being a dad. I am putting everything I have into staying present with my son and love learning from him day in and day out.
What’s left to accomplish?
I will never feel I have fully accomplished my personal growth—that drives me day in and day out to find some sort of mastery. Through my work, I aim to create an environment where my team, clients, prospects and I can engage in thoughtful conversations, fostering a playground for collaboration and innovation. Lots left out there to accomplish for us all.
Is there anyone you would like to thank or acknowledge?
I would show my gratitude to my business partners Howard, Matt and Ryan, as well as the entire team at CEM. I am especially thankful to my dad for helping me secure my first job in this industry—he believed in my potential before anyone else did. My mom taught me the importance of leading with compassion and heart, while my siblings and friends have provided unwavering love and support throughout the years, even during my toughest moments. Most importantly, my son Leo inspires me every day, giving me the motivation to keep pushing forward and never stop striving for excellence.
