Co-founder and CEO, RTR Terra Contracting Ltd.
Age 39
What career highlight are you most proud of?
One of my proudest achievements has been developing and advancing our employees through the ranks at Terra. Over the years, we’ve trained and helped young graduates obtain their professional engineering designations, and supported entry-level labourers to move into foreman and superintendent roles. Many others have been promoted within the company as well, with our commitment to development from within remaining central to Terra’s success. This approach has cultivated a strong team bond and contributed directly to our growth and project excellence.
What has been your toughest business or professional decision to date?
The hardest decision I’ve made was to take the leap of faith and start Terra in 2012. Leaving a stable six-figure job to manage the demands of a new business with eight-figure cash flow needs was daunting. It meant putting everything on the line, but looking back, it was the right choice, and it’s been rewarding to see what Terra has achieved.
How do you lead?
I believe in setting the standard through action, prioritizing hard work, integrity and accountability in every project and decision. My focus is on human resources, building a team of coachable, ambitious talent. My philosophy is that we can only take on work that matches our team’s capacity and expertise, and it’s essential to demonstrate the level of commitment I expect from everyone. Ensuring Terra’s people are equipped to excel means we can grow sustainably while delivering the highest level of service.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned in business?
I’ve learned that economic shifts can impact the business landscape almost overnight, affecting everything from operations to client demands. This experience taught me the value of decisiveness and resilience—being quick to acknowledge missteps and pivot when needed, while always leaning on what we do best. In times of change, I focus on practical adjustments, re-evaluating strategies and keeping things simple to ensure we stay effective. It’s about embracing flexibility, making timely decisions and leveraging our strengths to keep moving forward.
Best piece of advice ever received?
The best advice I’ve received centres on integrity: “Reputation takes years to build, but one instance to demolish.” In business and personal life, we must do what we say and say what we do. Additionally, empowering people to make their own decisions fosters growth and loyalty, enabling the organization to scale in the long run.
What is your definition of success?
Success means constantly learning, improving and ensuring that our clients reach their goals. When we help our clients succeed, we succeed. It’s about building lasting relationships and delivering work that stands the test of time, while also making a positive impact on our industry and community. For me and my team, success is a journey. Every project strengthens our commitment to excellence and drives us toward continuous growth.
What are you most passionate about outside of work?
My family, including my two young daughters, is my greatest passion outside of work. They inspire me daily, keeping me grounded and reminding me of the purpose behind everything I do. Their energy and joy give me a renewed perspective, pushing me to achieve more for their future.
What’s left to accomplish?
I believe I’m always at the beginning of my journey, constantly learning, adapting and connecting. With this recognition, I aim to deepen my impact within the community and the industry—finding new ways to make things easier and more efficient for my clients and peers alike.
Is there anyone you would like to thank or acknowledge?
I want to express my gratitude to my team at Terra, whose hard work and dedication make everything possible. Terra team together made success possible. I also want to thank my wife and family for their unwavering support and love.
