Wholesale sales in British Columbia grew by 0.1% in February to $4.8 billion, Statistics Canada announced April 22.
This was the province’s third consecutive monthly gain. The biggest gains in B.C. were seen in personal household goods (up 12.8%), motor vehicle and parts (up 10.8%) and food, beverage and tobacco (up 7.6%).
Canada-wide, wholesale trade increased 1.1% to $50.7 billion. This was driven in large part by gains in the sales of personal goods (up 3.7%) and motor vehicles and parts (up 3.0%).
Increases were seen in eight out of the 10 provinces. Wholesale sales in Prince Edward Island jumped 5.0%, followed by Manitoba at 2.7%.
Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia saw dips of 0.6% and 0.5%, respectively.
Year-over-year, wholesale trade in B.C. grew by 2.4%, compared with a national average of 3.5%. Prince Edward Island once again saw the top growth, with a jump of almost 17%.
