Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shuffled his cabinet July 18 and added five new ministers, including North Vancouver MP Jonathan Wilkinson, who will be the new minister of fisheries, oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard.
Four other additions to the cabinet are:
•Bill Blair, as minister of border security and organized crime reduction;
•Mary Ng, as minister of small business and export promotion;
•Filomena Tassi, as minister for seniors; and
•Pablo Rodriguez, as minister of heritage and multiculturalism.
Many current ministers, including B.C.’s Carla Qualtrough, who is MP for Delta, have either different or altered portfolios. Qualtrough will remain as the minister of public services and procurement, but will add the portfolio of accessibility.
The other ministers who have altered portfolios are:
•Dominic LeBlanc, who moves from being minister of fisheries and oceans, to being minister of intergovernmental affairs, northern affairs and internal trade;
•Amarjeet Sohi, who moves from being minister of infrastructure to being minister of natural resources;
•Jim Carr, who moves from being minister of natural resources to being minister of international trade diversification;
•Mélanie Joly, who goes from being minister of heritage to being minister of tourism, official languages and la francophonie;
•François-Philippe Champagne, who moves from being minister of international trade to being minister of infrastructure and communities;
•Scott Brison, who will continue to be president of the Treasury Board but will also become minister of digital government; and
•Carolyn Bennett, who drops the northern affairs element of her portfolio, and will become minister of Crown-Indigenous relations.
Other B.C. MPs who remain in cabinet include Jody Wilson-Raybould, who is the minister of justice and attorney general; and Harjit Sajjan, who is minister of national defence.
