B.C.’s municipal auditor, who is under fire for producing just one audit after more than two years in office, now faces an independent review by a former deputy finance minister.

The audit council overseeing auditor general Basia Ruta announced Wednesday that Chris Trumpy will investigate “ongoing concerns” about the delivery of audits. The review, which begins March 20, will examine the “office’s processes and planning for performance audits” and may offer advice on human resource issues, the council said.

The NDP obtained a leaked report last week detailing staff frustrations with waste, shifting priorities and unclear directions in the office.

Ruta said she ordered the human resources report herself and that her office was working through the issues.

She also admitted that she overreached by promising to release 18 audits in her first year, and that many of them were more complex than anticipated.

The auditor general plans to release her second and third reports today. One of them is the second half of a two-part report on Rossland, while the other is a performance audit on the Corporation of Delta.

Ruta took office in January 2013.
