President, S&W Forest Products Ltd.
Age 35
What career highlight are you most proud of?
I’m proud to be named president of my company and lead it into a new era within the forest products industry. As a young female entrepreneur, breaking into this traditionally male-dominated sector early on and driving growth has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve mastered a mature, complex industry—an achievement that’s rare in my field. For me, success is about more than personal accomplishment; it’s about creating opportunities for others, especially women, to take on leadership roles and make a meaningful impact.
What has been your toughest business or professional decision to date?
Letting go of team members. As a leader, it’s never easy to part ways with individuals who have contributed to the company’s journey. While I recognize the necessity of tough decisions for the long-term health of the business, the personal aspect of such decisions can be challenging. I strive to approach these situations with empathy, respect and transparency, ensuring that those affected feel supported during their transition, all while staying true to the company’s values and vision.
How do you lead?
I lead with a firm but fair approach, setting clear expectations, being transparent and holding everyone accountable. While I may be younger, I deeply value the experience my team brings. I strive to create an environment where open communication, mutual respect and collaboration thrive. Leadership, for me, means leading by example, making decisive choices and empowering others to take initiative. I believe a strong work ethic is essential—it’s about integrity, consistency and setting a standard of excellence. My goal is to foster a culture where fairness, respect and accountability define leadership, regardless of age or experience.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned in business?
The power of adaptability. In the forestry industry, where market conditions, regulations and environmental factors are constantly evolving, being able to pivot—whether by adjusting strategies or embracing new technologies—is crucial for long-term success. It’s not just about sticking to a plan but knowing when to evolve. Flexibility, combined with a strong vision, enables a business to thrive even in the face of uncertainty and change.
Best piece of advice ever received?
“If serving is below you, then leading is beyond you.” This powerful insight reshaped how I viewed leadership. It reminds me that true leadership is not about position or authority, but about serving others—leadership is about humility, listening and fostering an environment where people feel valued and capable of achieving their best.
What is your definition of success?
Making a meaningful impact. It’s about striving for personal growth, overcoming challenges and building strong relationships, while also reaching my personal and professional goals. Success isn’t just about achieving milestones; it’s about finding fulfillment, staying true to my values and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. I believe true success comes from achieving both professional ambitions and personal well-being, ensuring I’m present for the things and people that matter most.
What are you most passionate about outside of work?
I’m passionate about health and wellness, staying active and maintaining a balanced lifestyle. I enjoy barre, yoga, CrossFit and my Peloton—each offering a unique way to challenge my body and clear my mind. I also love being near or on the water, especially wakesurfing, which gives me a sense of freedom and adventure.
What’s left to accomplish?
While I’m proud of my journey so far, there’s still so much more to achieve. I’m focused on expanding our reach, fostering innovation, and ensuring we continue to serve our clientele with excellence. I’m passionate about empowering the next generation of leaders—especially women—and creating opportunities for them to thrive. My goal is to leave a lasting legacy that inspires change, fosters inclusivity and drives meaningful progress across borders.
Is there anyone you would like to thank or acknowledge?
I am truly honoured to receive this recognition and want to thank my family and friends for their amazing support over the years. Their encouragement in my pursuit of career excellence and their steadfast presence through challenges have been invaluable. I’m also deeply grateful to S&W and my colleagues for their belief in me, their collaboration and support. Together, they’ve been essential in helping me refine my vision and have played a crucial role in my journey.
