Vice-president of engineering, TransLink
Age 39
What career highlight are you most proud of?
Co-chairing our women and allies employee resource group has been deeply rewarding, allowing me to explore gender inequities and the tangible ways we can work together towards true gender equity, while helping a strong group of women connect and grow across our organization. Additionally, I am grateful for the dedicated teams I have had the privilege to develop and lead. Their passion and commitment continually inspire me to bring my best.
What has been your toughest business or professional decision to date?
Taking on the role of vice-president certainly impacted my family, requiring us to adjust how we managed household responsibilities due to the added demands of the position. It wasn’t easy to shift those responsibilities, but my family has been incredibly supportive. They’ve stepped up to help shoulder the extra workload, allowing me to create the time and space needed to fully embrace this role.
How do you lead?
I embrace a collaborative leadership style, grounded in my belief that my teams can achieve TransLink’s goals when they are properly supported and motivated. My focus is on empowering them by securing the resources and guidance they need to succeed. I approach leadership with passion, dedication and an outcomes-driven mindset, while always prioritizing what best serves the people of our region.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned in business?
Your reputation and integrity are crucial to achieving success, as our work relies heavily on collaboration. Building strong relationships requires mutual trust and respect, which can only be maintained through consistent integrity. Treat everyone with respect and never compromise your values. Your character will be your strongest asset in rallying others to achieve shared goals.
Best piece of advice ever received?
The best advice I have received is to be your authentic self in every interaction. If you are in the right environment, success will come from your true self—not from trying to be someone you are not. This perspective has guided me to focus on my strengths and values, knowing that genuine connections and achievements are built on honesty. When I bring my authentic self to every situation, it leads to deeper relationships and lasting success.
What is your definition of success?
I define success as leaving the world better than I found it. Being mindful of the impact we have on others and our surroundings is essential. Success is not just about personal achievements. It is about making a positive difference in the lives of others and in our communities, and even small contributions matter. True success is found in the ways we uplift our communities, whether through kindness, service or leadership.
What are you most passionate about outside of work?
Outside of work, I am passionate about experiencing life through my children’s eyes. My days are filled with swimming lessons, baseball games, arts and crafts, and celebrations of life’s many joys. There is never a dull moment, and I would not have it any other way. Watching them grow and explore brings me immense happiness and keeps me grounded in what truly matters.
What’s left to accomplish?
I want to give back by inspiring younger generations—especially girls and people of colour—to pursue careers in engineering and science. When I entered this field, I rarely saw leaders who looked like me. I hope to leave a legacy of compassion, empowerment and meaningful change by encouraging young people to envision broader horizons for themselves. The world is evolving, and diverse perspectives are crucial for meaningful progress. By fostering inclusivity, we create space for others to see themselves in these roles. I feel privileged to help shape a future that reflects and values diversity.
Is there anyone you would like to thank or acknowledge?
First on my list are my parents, whose sacrifices made everything possible for my sisters and I to succeed. My husband and children also deserve recognition for their unwavering support and encouragement of my career. I am grateful to TransLink for creating a workplace where I can thrive and grow. Thank you to leaders Kevin Quinn (CEO), Jeff Busby (COO), Sarah Ross (vice-president of planning) and my entire engineering division leadership team. The support and encouragement that I receive from everyone at TransLink is overwhelming, and I am deeply thankful to each person who has cheered me on along the way.
