Canada is one of the most optimistic nations about its economy, according to a survey released this morning by the Brussels-based International Trade Union Confederation.
While Brazil was the world’s most optimistic country with two-thirds of respondents saying their country was headed in the right direction, Canada came in second place with 61% of Canadian respondents optimistic about the country’s economic course.
However, the survey also found that Canadians didn’t back austerity measures: only 11% of Canadian respondents said the country should pay off its debts now.
In contrast, 52% of Canadians feel that the government should invest in jobs and growth.
The survey also found that Canadians are very pessimistic about the economic future for later generations, with 77% of respondents believing that future generations will be worse off. Globally, the survey found that two-thirds of respondents expect future generations to be worse off.
