It’s that time of year again -- Christmas time. You may have noticed.
The Tyee had an interesting column on what British Columbia wanted for Christmas – a plan B. With LNG losing its lustre (even New York state has now banned fracking) it really needs to look elsewhere. Perhaps that’s why the government is suggesting stuffing stockings with coal this Christmas.

Yahoo. In a calculation done in the summer, the company’s market cap was less than the value of its stake in Alibaba – so a company could buy up all the shares of Yahoo, sell Alibaba and be ahead. That was before the Alibaba IPO which pushed the value of that company up substantially. Yahoo still owns 380 million shares in BABA.
A trip to Cuba: topping the amazing news category this past week was the news that the United States was going to open an embassy in Havana. The statement by Raul Castro in which he thanked Canada for helping make it happen was touching.
A movie pass: But not to see The Interview with James Franco and Seth Rogen. Okay, maybe making a movie about a notorious dictator may seem funny over a couple of beers drunk in a distant land. Not so funny when the dictator is actually pretty powerful and threatens to obliterate countries that show the movie. President Obama criticized Sony for pulling the movie saying the U.S. would act at a place and time it chose.
Christmas decorations from Yiwu China: It turns out the town of Yiwu makes 60% of the world’s decorations. And it doesn’t look like fun (unless you like being covered in red paint).
