Premier Christy Clark has appointed former BC Hydro chair Dan Doyle chief of staff “effective immediately,” following the sudden resignation of his predecessor, Ken Boessenkool.

Clark has given no specifics about the reasons for Boessenkool’s resignation, but her office published his resignation letter yesterday that is dated September 23.

“Earlier this month, I was involved in an incident where I acted inappropriately,” Boessenkool stated in the letter. “I was wrong, regretted my behaviour very much and immediately and unconditionally apologized.”

Bossenkool said he will return to Calgary to be with family, “who I have also let down.”

In her statement, Clark did not explain the reasons for Boessenkool’s departure, except to say that the premier’s office was made aware of “an incident of concern” earlier this month, which it proceeded to review.

“As per British Columbia privacy laws, no more details can be provided,” she said.

Clark touted Doyle’s qualifications in stepping in as chief of staff, describing him as “a career public servant who helped build British Columbia’s infrastructure.”

She added, “Dan also played a key role in making the 2010 Olympic Winter Games a success and has served as the chair of BC Hydro.”
