The vast majority of the construction industry is expecting work to either pick up or remain steady in B.C. once the new year hits.
A survey released December 29 from the Independent Contractors and Businesses Association of B.C. (ICBA-B.C.) found 47% of companies predict work to increase in 2015, while another 50% expect it will stay about the same as it was in 2014.
Meanwhile, 58% of respondents said business is expected to pick up the most in the province’s north.
“This is welcome news because the construction industry is a strong indicator for the rest of the economy,” ICBA-B.C. president Philip Hochstein said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the survey found 42% of companies planned to add employees rather than increase hours for existing employees.
That’s up from 2014, when 35% of employers were planning to add jobs as opposed to increasing hours.
