A project and construction management consultant is suing North American Construction Group (NACG) and Terrane Metals Ltd. for $340,000, claiming he was hired to help manage the Mount Milligan mining project and was never paid.

In a notice of civil claim, Rickey W. Doyle and his company Mackenzie Delta Industrial Ltd. (MDI) claim that Doyle was hired by NACG to act as general manager of its industrial mechanical division to provide expertise in managing the Mount Milligan project and to shepherd the foundation and growth of the division. Doyle began his work with NACG in May 2011.

In the spring of 2012, NACG closed the division but left Doyle in charge of the Mount Milligan mining project, according to the claim. Under a new contract of employment with NACG, Doyle was to become an employee of MDI and MDI was responsible for billing NACG for amounts it was to pay Doyle. Doyle’s rate of pay was $2,250 per day and he was eligible to receive a completion bonus and a performance bonus, the claim states.

Doyle claims he arrived at the mine in July 2012 to start implementing the changes in the management plan but the on-site partners were “hostile” to the planned changes and “several threats were made on Mr. Doyle’s life.”

NACG left the Mount Milligan site in November 2012. In December 2012 MDI filed a claim of lien against Mount Milligan Mine for $340,000, the amount Doyle and MDI claimed was owed.

Doyle and Mackenzie Delta Industrial seek:

•a declaration that the company is entitled to a $340,000 lien;

•an accounting of the Mount Milligan project; and

•damages for wrongful dismissal and breach of contract.

At press time, neither Terrane Metals nor North American Construction Group has filed a response to Doyle’s claim. None of the allegations in the claim have been proven in court.
