The B.C. government has launched a new online tool to land more foreign investment and to enable baby boomers to sell their businesses and retire.

The tool, OpportunitiesBC, is an online searchable database of business and project opportunities that may interest foreign investors.

According to the province, the database's three functions are:

  • to provide updated listings of eligible opportunities around the province in order to help investment seekers gain greater profile for their projects;
  • to allow foreign investors to explore investment opportunities in B.C.; and
  • to connect "opportunity representatives" with potential foreign investors.

According to the government, the opportunities range from large-scale resource projects down to small businesses. It noted that the investments may be suitable for entrepreneurs seeking business immigration through the Provincial Nominee Program.

B.C. businesses are welcome to submit their opportunities to the database.

John Winter, president and CEO of BC Chamber of Commerce, said the tool will support B.C. business owners looking to retire.

"British Columbia businesses and industries are the lifeblood of the province's economy and OpportunitiesBC represents a great tool for continued growth and assistance for those looking to retire and pass on their success," he said.
