An Insights West poll released November 10 shows incumbent mayor Gregor Robertson still in the lead, but NPA contender Kirk LaPointe making headway on economic issues and financial management.
The poll showed that 46% of decided voters would vote for Robertson, while 41% would choose LaPointe. Nine per cent said they would vote for COPE mayoral candidate Meena Wong.
More than 25% of Vancouver residents polled were still undecided, and of those who said they had voted for Robertson in 2011, 25% said they would vote for LaPointe while 10% said they would choose Wong.
The online survey of 505 eligible voters found that 47% of voters had a positive opinion of Robertson, compared to 43% who approved of LaPointe — for LaPointe, that represented an increase of 19 points compared to a poll last conducted in August.
The survey found Robertson polling higher among younger voters and women, and was seen as performing strongly on the environment, parks and recreation, arts and culture, transportation, housing and poverty.
But survey respondents rated LaPointe higher on city finances and taxation, economic development and crime.
According to media reports, internal Vision Vancouver polling is showing a much closer than expected race. In the remaining week of the campaign, the incumbent party is using those results to warn undecided voters that not voting for Vision may mean a victory for the NPA.
