Acting auditor general Russ Jones officially assumed his new post this week, taking over from B.C.'s previous auditor general John Doyle, who left the post earlier this month and returned to Australia.

Jones is a veteran accountant and previously served as assistant auditor general and chief financial officer in the auditor general's office.

Jones has also served as a member of both the B.C. Bylaws Committee and the Public Sector Accounting Committee – the latter of which sets the standards for financial reporting by the public sector.

"John [Doyle] made many inroads during his time as auditor general and for that we are grateful. In the months ahead, I look forward to working closely with our staff and auditees to continue our valuable work," said Jones.

"My goal is to carry on this office's tradition of excellence, relevance and providing public value."

No date has yet been set to name the next auditor general, who will serve an eight-year term.

Doyle accepted the role as AG of the state of Victoria in Australia following a reappointment debacle in B.C.
