Burnaby-based independent production company Bron Studios has opened up a new animation facility in Duncan on Vancouver Island.

Bron’s first full-length animated feature film, “Henchmen,” which will feature the voices of Bobcat Goldthwait, Rosario Dawson, James Marsden and Jane Krakowski, among others, will be produced in part at the Duncan studio.

“We’re really excited about establishing a vibrant animation community outside the Lower Mainland,” said Bron co-founder Brenda Gilbert.

“The studio in Duncan allows us to make the most of the incredibly supportive tax credits while offering artists the opportunity to live and work in a truly beautiful place.”

Bron is involved in the production of both live-action and animated movies. It won a 2015 Leo Award for Best Animation Program or Series for a “Mighty Mighty Monsters” special.

The studio is currently involved in a number of projects with big-name actors, including co-producing “Special Correspondents,” written and directed by British comedian Ricky Gervais, for which Netflix has acquired the rights.

Bron is also working on “The Layover,” directed by William H. Macy and starring Kate Upton and Alexandra Daddario, as well as several other animated and live-action films.

“Henchmen” is set to release in 2016.
