Some say it has both physiological and psychological benefits that can improve one’s overall quality of life. Floating in a sensory deprivation tank, or float tank, is meant to neutralize the outside world while you relax in a completely quiet, comfortable environment all your own.

Those who choose to indulge in this experience at Float House will lie, nude, in 10 inches of water inside a dark float tank. This water is filled with 800 pounds of dissolved Epsom salts, making the body effortlessly buoyant. Even if you fall asleep, Float House says, you will still stay afloat.

The temperature inside the tank is the same as that of your skin, which Float House said will make you forget you are even in water.

The tank is totally dark. There is no sound. Even the smell is neutral.

Floating in the tank removes stress from the body’s muscles and skeletal system as you float in neutral buoyancy.

This is the opposite of a feast for the senses; this is a vacation for the senses.
