Vancouver Canucks fans got a bit of a shakeup last week when the team announced it was trading long-time favourite Alex Burrows to the Ottawa Senators, and now they have learned they are going to have to have to change the dial to tune into future games.
Sportsnet has scored the rights to broadcast Vancouver Canucks games after TSN 1040—the station that has been broadcasting the games for 11 years—lost the contract to Rogers Media March 8.
The new deal is a five-year agreement that will see Sportsnet broadcast all 82 Canucks games, beginning next season. Sportsnet said the deal adds to their 10-year agreement with the hockey team that includes coverage on TV, mobile and online.
“The Canucks are the most sought-after content in the Vancouver market, and we are excited to expand our Sportsnet offering to deliver live Canucks coverage on all platforms,” said Scott Moore, president of Sportsnet, Rogers Media.
“Vancouver is a top Canadian market filled with loyal and knowledgeable sports fans and is a natural fit to expand our Sportsnet offering.”
Rogers Media owns Vancouver radio stations News 1130, Jack FM and KiSS 104.9.
