The Vancouver-based company behind CG-animated films and TV shows like Escape From Planet Earth and ReBoot has gone Hollywood in the search for a new boardroom director.
Rainmaker Entertainment (TSX VENTURE:RNK) announced July 21 it has appointed ex-MGM Studios executive Steve Hendry to join its board. The greenlight for the appointment follows a July 15 annual general meeting.
The former vice-president of TV operations at MGM joins four others on the board, including Rainmaker CEO Craig Graham.
Hendry was involved with MGM’s corporate and financial restructuring from 2005 to 2010, when the studio filed for bankruptcy protection.
MGM is behind much of the James Bond franchise and — after emerging from bankruptcy protection in late 2010 — recently co-produced The Hobbit trilogy.
Despite his background in Hollywood, Hendry graduated with a bachelor of commerce from the University of B.C. and is a Chartered Accountant.
Rainmaker was delisted form the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) in June 2013 after failing to meet listing requirements. It moved over to the TSX Venture Exchange in August 2013.
Rainmaker, which posted a net loss of $2.9 million in 2013, is in the midst of producing its second theatrical feature, Ratchet and Clank.
The company was originally founded as Mainframe Entertainment and produced the world’s first entirely CG-animated series in the 1990s.
In 2013, Rainmaker announced it was returning to TV development with the production of new episodes of two animated series.
Graham said in a statement Hendry’s experience in the television industry would help the company build up its new slate of TV series.
