Vancouver’s YYoga has opened a studio in Toronto – its first location outside of British Columbia – the yoga chain announced November 6.
The studio, located in the trendy Queen Street West area, is the company’s tenth location. At 10,000 square feet, the centre is the largest yoga studio in Toronto, as well as being the biggest YYoga in the chain.
“I would put this as the most beautiful studio we have,” Jen Riley, YYoga’s VP marketing, told Business in Vancouver. “We are definitely taking a look at this location with an eye to expanding.”
In July 2012, YYoga announced plans for a new 20,000-square-foot studio at Telus Garden, to open in 2014. Riley said these plans are currently on hold, but that the company is still open to partnering with developers in this manner.
Riley said YYoga tries to make each of its locations fit into the community, and in the new Toronto studio they have introduced something called “jock yoga.”
“Jock yoga is lighter on the spiritual side – a great way to bring people into yoga.”
The company was founded by Lara Kozan and Terry McBride in 2007.
