Rescan Environmental Services Ltd., a B.C. environmental consulting firm, is now a global player, following a merger with U.K.-headquartered Environmental Resources Management (ERM).

Rescan was founded in 1981 by Clem Pelletier, who will stay on under the newly merged company as president and director of Rescan under the ERM Group. His son, Pierre Pelletier, will become the leader of ERM’s Canadian operation as ERM’s Canadian managing partner.

Rescan has 170 employees. Under the merger, it is now part of an international company with 4,800 employees and 40 offices worldwide.

“This is an important opportunity for Rescan and ERM,” said Pierre Pelletier. “We now offer our clients added benefits, including access to a broader range of expertise, services and support across geographies and industry sector”s.

David McArthur, ERM CEO Americas, said, “Adding 170-plus Rescan staff to our business here in Canada allows us serve our clients more effectively across our strategic sectors.” Those sectors include mining, power and oil and gas.

“We now have 220-plus staff in the Canadian market, and another 2,500 in the rest of the Americas, and intend to continue grow the business as we always have – serving our key clients across all of our practice offerings,” McArthur said.

Rescan has provided the environmental consulting for a number of major resources projects, including B.C.’s Northwest Transmission Line project, the EKATI Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories, several mineral mine projects in B.C., BHP Billiton’s proposed Jansen potash mine in Saskatchewan and various mine projects in South America and the Dominican Republic.
