Vancouver scientist and environmentalist David Suzuki is among the Canadian scientists and educators being recognized by pharmaceutical giant Bayer Inc. for innovation and leadership.

As part of its 150th anniversary, the maker of Aspirin is recognizing Canadian scientists, educators and business innovators. Recipients include Roberta Bondar, Canada’s first female astronaut.

Suzuki is being recognized for his foundation’s ongoing efforts to promote renewable energy, including the foundation’s latest initiative, the Trottier Energy Futures Project, which will provide scientific reviews for the full range of energy production and distribution in Canada.

“When people think of Bayer, they often think of Aspirin and not Felix Hoffman, the chemist who discovered the now universal pain reliever,” said Bayer CEO Christian Lauterbach.

“Today we salute a small group of Canadians who share our passion and who work tirelessly to improve the quality of our lives through science and innovation.”

Suzuki and more than 20 other recipients will receive their awards at the MaRS Centre in Toronto on May 28.
