The City of Vancouver has been selected to receive the inaugural Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation for its housing affordability and Greenest City initiatives.

The award’s objective is to recognize innovative projects that promote sustainability and the socioeconomic environment at the municipal level by encouraging the sharing of experiences and best practices among cities, regions and countries.

The award was accepted by Kerry Jang, Vancouver’s deputy mayor, at a ceremony in Guangzhou, China, the city announced last week.

The Guangzhou award is open to all city and regional governments around the world. Vancouver’s entry was one of 255 submissions received, and the selection was made by an international panel of judges, led by Guangzhou mayor Chen Jianhua.
