WWF-Canada is happy with the news that the British Columbia government has passed the Water Sustainability act, saying the new law “will bring the province’s water act into the 21st century.”
“B.C.s new Water Sustainability Act will put in place much-needed rules to protect groundwater and environmental flows of B.C.’s lakes and rivers,” said WWF-Canada CEO David Miller.
“This important new law will help ensure that there is water for nature and water for people in our future.”
The new act integrates water and groundwater management by providing a licensing system for groundwater management and manages water licensing in watersheds.
WWF-Canada said the new rules were needed to adapt to climate change, promote wise water use and generally protect the province’s waters.
