Vancouver nightclub owner Blueprint plans to close its Shine nightclub in Gastown on September 27 and completely gut the facility for a remodeling and rebranding, the company announced August 22.

The 14-year-old club had hosted everything from LGBT-friendly Sundays to retro nights, house and funk events.

“Sometimes change is a good thing and we believe that Vancouver will fall in love with this new concept just as they have with Shine,” Blueprint principal Alvaro Prol told Business in Vancouver in an emailed statement.

“Shine has been an original in Gastown for years, and is one of our most beloved clubs.”

Blueprint has a vast array of complex ownership stakes in Vancouver entertainment and hospitality enterprises.

For example, in addition to its majority stake in Shine, it owns majority stakes in nightclubs such as:

  • Celebrities;
  • The Venue;
  • L.E.D. Bar; and
  • The Caprice.

It also has a minority stake in the nightclub Fortune Soundclub and majority stakes in pubs, such as:

  • Charles Bar on West Cordova Street;
  • Bismarck Bar on Abbott Street;
  • Dover Arms on Denman Street; and
  • Colony Bar on West Broadway.

Its majority-owned beer and wine stores are:

  • West End Liquor Store;
  • Burrard Liquor Store; and
  • Crosstown Liquor Store.

The company’s last major renovation of a nightclub was in early 2013 when it spent more than $1 million to renovate Celebrities during a nine-week closure.

That transformation included a significant improvement in the club’s lighting system and it equipped the 7,000-square-foot club to be able to hold live acts.
