Vancouver is the costliest place in the country to book a hotel room for the night according to a survey released today by cheaphotels.org.

With an average nightly stay of $164, Vancouver beat out Toronto ($152), Halifax ($148) and St. John’s ($146) who came second, third and fourth respectively. The lowest rate for a major Canadian city was Montreal ($112).

Sonu Purhar, the manager of Communications for Tourism Vancouver responded via email to the study.

“We don’t see these rates as a bad thing – our destination provides tremendous value in terms of overall visitor experience, and we are continuing to see strong demand from our key markets.”

The findings were tabulated from rooms during the month of June, which is the highest month for bookings. The prices reflect the average rate for each Canadian city’s least expensive available double room with a minimum of three stars.
