Tofino’s Wickaninnish Inn has been named 2014’s top resort in Canada by Travel + Leisure magazine.
The ranking is based on guest experiences by Travel + Leisure readers.
The inn was built in 1955 and is located on Chesterman Beach on Vancouver Island. It is known for its panoramic ocean views and West Coast styling.
This is not the first time the Wickaninnish has appeared in the magazine’s top hotel listings; it has appeared in top spots over the past several years. In 2013, it took the number two spot in the Best Resorts category, second only to the Post Hotel & Spa in Lake Louise, Alberta. This year, the Post was in second place.
Other awards the inn has taken home in the past include best spa hotel in the world in 2008 and best hotel spa in the Continental United States and Canada in 2012.
The Wickaninnish was also included in 2013’s Condé Nast Travel Platinum Circle.
“To be ranked among the world's best, and to have made the list consistently for over 10 years in a row, is a great testament to the dedicated team at the Wickaninnish Inn,” said the inn’s managing director Charles McDiarmid.
“Knowing that the knowledgeable readers of Travel + Leisure recognize our efforts makes this award that much more meaningful.”
Other resorts from British Columbia that made Travel + Leisure’s Best Resorts list this year were the Four Seasons Resort & Residences in Whistler (second place), the Fairmont Chateau Whistler (sixth place), the Pan Pacific Whistler Mountainside (eighth) and the Sooke Harbour House (ninth).
