Former YVR CEO among Order of BC recipients

Larry Berg, who retired earlier this year as CEO of Vancouver International Airport, is among 13 British Columbians who will receive the Order of British Columbia.

Berg, whose career at YVR spanned 20 years, 15 of them as CEO, is being recognized for his “visionary” leadership at YVR, which has won numerous accolades over the years. YVR has been named best airport in North America four years in a row by Skytrax World Airport Awards, and this year was ranked eighth in the top 10 best airports in the world.

“The Order of British Columbia recognizes remarkable accomplishments by extraordinary British Columbians," said Premier Christy Clark. “This year's recipients have each made a difference in their communities and to the province.”

Other recipients are:

  • Arthur Hara, Vancouver, Asia-Pacific businessman and economic leader;
  • Wendy Grant-John, Vancouver, First Nations economic and community leader;
  • Peter Anderson, Burnaby, emergency communications and disaster warning expert;
  • Finley Armanious, Vernon, intensive care physician and hospital fundraiser;
  • Sergio Cocchia, West Vancouver, entrepreneur, philanthropist and supporter of children's charities;
  • Donna Crocker, Langley, fundraiser and advocate for the homeless;
  • Gregory Fahlman, Victoria, astronomy researcher;
  • Paula Gordon, Vancouver, innovator in breast cancer screening  research;
  • Robert Ho, West Vancouver, philanthropist and supporter of health care and universities;
  • George Hungerford, Vancouver, philanthropist in sports, health care and education;
  • Charles Jago, Prince George, leader in education, economic development and the arts; and
  • Charles Scudamore, Vancouver, cancer researcher, transplant surgeon and teacher.
