Hating the office carpet or deciding to participate in a reality TV show were just two reasons employees have left their jobs, according to a survey released this morning.
The survey, commissioned by office staffing company OfficeTeam, asked 1,300 senior managers of Canadian and U.S. companies some of the most unusual reasons employees quit their jobs.
Some of the reasons unearthed included:
- an employee who quit to participate in a reality TV show;
- an employee who said it was his routine to change jobs every six months;
- an employee who was going to live off her trust fund;
- an employee who didn’t enjoy the cafeteria food;
- an employee who didn’t like the sound of file cabinets being slammed;
- an employee who said he was making too much money and didn’t feel he was worth it;
- an employee who wanted to enter a beauty contest;
- an employee who hated the carpet;
- an employee who felt the office lobby area was too small; and
- an employee who quit to watch a soccer tournament.
OfficeTeam executive director Robert Hosking encouraged employees not to follow these examples when quitting a job.
“Regardless of the reason for resigning, making a graceful exit by tying up loose ends and thanking colleagues shows your professionalism and can help you down the road in your career,” he advised.
