WelcomeBC (www.welcomebc.ca), an online portal for immigrant workers and prospective workers in B.C., had a 63% increase in visits in 2011 compared with 2010.
The website was used by roughly one million users in 2011, according to the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation, which jointly funds the program under the Canada-BC Immigration Agreement.
The ministry attributes the 63% increase in visits to a suite of new products and apps, including a new mobile version of the site, an information page called Ask the Expert, five foreign-language gateways and various social media offerings, including WelcomeBC's YouTube channel.
The website help newcomers who are already in B.C. find work, and also helps immigrants who want to come to B.C. to get a head start on their career plans before they arrive.
Newcomers can also use the site to learn about things like finding a place to live, accessing health care, enrolling children in school and getting a B.C. driver's licence.
