Development/Construction

Dinos Hadjiloizou has been appointed general manager of Division 15 Mechanical Ltd. after 10 years with the company. Hadjiloizou began his time at Division 15 10 years ago as a project manager. He has served as operations manager and head of the district energy department for the past two years.

Keely Dry and Peter McGill have joined the team at Peter Rose Architecture + Interiors Inc. as senior interior designer and senior technologist, respectively. Keely has experience in leading and overseeing interior design projects in the commercial industry sector. McGill has more than 40 years of experience in condo and apartment construction, as well as the residential and commercial sectors.

Education

Charles Chandler, partner, Grant Thornton LLP, has been appointed to Royal Roads University’s board of governors. Chandler has practised as a chartered professional accountant and chartered business valuator for more than 30 years and is a former partner at Hayes Stewart Little & Co.

Finance

Rehan Mohammad has been appointed vice-president, finance, at Bench, the largest online bookkeeping service in North America. Prior to joining Bench, Mohammad was director of business operations at Under Armour’s digital division. Prior to Under Armour, Mohammad was head of finance and business operations at MyFitnessPal, where he led the financial and business strategy behind its $475 million acquisition by Under Armour.

Legal

David Wotherspoon has joined MLT Aikins LLP’s Vancouver office as a partner. Wotherspoon has a broad-based litigation background, with particular experience in technology, intellectual property, data breach, social media, defamation and crisis management.

Non-profit

Tapestry Foundation for Health Care appointed a new executive and new directors to its board last year. Brad Cruickshank, chief financial officer, Transcan Leasing Corp., was appointed board chair and Michael Mjanes, associate, DLA Piper (Canada) LLP, was appointed vice-chair. Katherine Liu, chartered accountant, Martin & Henry Chartered Accountants, was appointed secretary/treasurer, and retired lawyer Jacqueline Kelly continues to serve as past chair. New directors to the board include Patricia Yeo, real estate consultant, Royal Pacific Realty Corp.,and Philip Wong, who was a senior engineer at a leading computer firm in the U.S. He served in the Chinese National People’s Congress for 10 years and on the Hong Kong Legislative Council for more than 20 years.

Kathryn Young, partner, Boyden Vancouver, has been appointed board chair at St. Paul’s Foundation. Young served as vice-chair for two and a half years, and has been a director on the board since 2010. Young most recently chaired United Way of the Lower Mainland’s 2015-16 campaign and sits as a member of the United Way board of directors.

Marc Bruner has been appointed board chair for MGX Minerals as well as head of U.S.  acquisitions for the company’s wholly owned subsidiary, PetroLithium Corp. of America. Bruner was previously the chair and CEO of Falcon Oil & Gas Ltd. and served as founding chair of Ultra Petroleum, where he was involved in developing the Pinedale Anticline in Wyoming, one of the largest unconventional natural gas fields in the U.S. Bruner joins Larry Marks, formerly of Royal Dutch Shell and Shell Oil Canada, as well as Claudio Manissero, formerly of FMC Lithium and Preston McEachern, chief scientist, on the PetroLithium corporate team.

Tomas Iturriaga Hidalgo has been appointed vice-president, operations, and country manager for Mexico at Endeavour Silver Corp. Iturriaga has more than 20 years of experience with companies such as Dupont, Rockwell, Donaldson, Solectron and Goldcorp.

Technology

Sheri Rempel Wennberg has been appointed CFO at Mobio Technologies Inc., replacing Kevin Rathbun, who resigned as of January 31. Rathbun will assist with the transition of duties to Rempel and will remain available as a consultant to the company. Rempel has more than 25 years of experience with multiple reporting issuers in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, internal control and corporate finance activities. She is currently CFO of NU2U Resources Inc., Serengeti Resources Inc. and Fantasy 6 Sports Inc., among other companies.

Brenda Eprile has been appointed board chair at Westport Fuel Systems. Eprile, a director since October 2013, replaces Warren Baker, who will remain on the board as a director, as well as continuing as chair of the nominating and corporate governance committee.

Hats Off

Craig Amundsen (Delta), Tony Toriglia (Parksville), Graham Esplen (Surrey), Nicole Liddell (Vancouver), Doreen Drysdale (Port Moody), Steve Beerman (Nanaimo) and Ron Aubrey (Metchosin) were recently presented with awards by the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS), which celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2016,for their contribution to drowning-prevention work. Queen Elizabeth II, patron, RLSS, and Prince Michael of Kent, Commonwealth president, RLSS, presented the awards. The seven B.C. residents were part of a Canadian delegation of 21 award recipients.

100 Women Who Care Dawson Creek recently donated $19,000 to the local Seniors Access Program. This program provides care for seniors that allows them to live independently in their homes, such as: snow shovelling, house cleaning and meal co-ordination.

Canadian Western Bank (CWB) donated more than $20,000 to be shared between Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver and Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland to support mentoring programs for local children. The funds were raised through CWB’s annual Greater Interest GIC fundraising campaign.

Attendees at Marquis Wine Cellars’ 10th annual Champagne and Sparkling Wine Tasting event donated $4,980 to Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland. These funds will help the organization match at-risk girls with a supportive mentor.

The Great-West Life Assurance Co., London Life Insurance Co. and Canada Life Assurance Co. donated $25,000 to Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver Foundation. These funds will support the charity’s aboriginal mentoring programs.

Kryton International Inc. and its employees donated $6,887.70 to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation

In 2011, the Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association (CTRA) launched its Jane James Used Tack Shop initiative, an on-site store that sells used riding equipment. The shop helps CTRA turn donations into funding to support its program of providing equine-based services to people with special needs. The tack shop made it to the November 2016 finals of the Social Enterprise Catalyst gala, resulting in $8,000, which will help cover staff hours in the store, transitioning the model from appointment-only to regular hours of operation: 9:30-3:30, Monday-Friday, and Saturdays, 10-2.

Rona Home Centre Austin donated $427.30 to Crossroads Hospice Society through charity popcorn sales donations. Each month Rona staff choose a different charity to support. This is the third time the store has selected Crossroads Hospice Society.

A total of $65,000 was raised over the holiday season through the SOS Children’s Village BC’s Gingerbread Village, presented by Re/Max, and the holiday gala at Grouse Mountain.

Elks of Burnaby Lodge No. 497 donated $4,000 to Burnaby Hospital Foundation for urgently needed medical equipment. •
