Floris van Weelderen has joined the senior leadership team of Bunt & Associates Engineering Ltd. Prior to this appointment, van Weelderen was manager, transportation planning, at WSP Global Inc.
Education
Tania Bubela, a health law and policy researcher with an extensive health biotechnology and legal background, has been appointed dean of health sciences at Simon Fraser University. Prior to this appointment, Bubela was at the University of Alberta as a professor in the School of Public Health, and also served as associate dean of research (2014-16). Prior to joining the school, Bubela clerked at the Supreme Court of Canada, articled at Field Law in Edmonton and was an assistant professor in the Alberta School of Business from 2004-08.
Finance
David Eisler has joined Regimen Equity Partners as managing director. Prior to this appointment, Eisler was vice-president at Stern Partners, and before that, he spent 14 years as managing director at Banyan Capital Partners. Eisler also worked in investment banking at Scotia Capital Inc. before joining Banyan Capital.
Richard Butterworth has been appointed chief financial officer at BlueShore Financial, replacing Bill Keen, who is retiring. Formerly CEO at Wolverton Securities, Butterworth also held positions as COO, Canada, and executive vice-president, North America, at Hogg Robinson Group and executive vice-president, Canadian operations, at Brookfield Global Relocation Services.

Darin Newton has been appointed restaurant director at Il Caminetto, which is currently under renovations, in Whistler Village. Newton brings 20 years of service experience to lead the front-of-house team; he will begin the hiring process for key service positions in the fall and start building the Il Caminetto team to coincide with the 2017-18 ski season.
Legal
Aman Dhesi and Natalie Pawson have joined the Vancouver office of Miller Thomson LLP as associates after articling at the firm. Dhesi has joined the corporate group and Pawson has joined the real estate group.
Irene Chen and Keith Sulzer have joined Lawson Lundell LLP. Chen has joined the firm’s Vancouver office as an associate in the firm’s business law group, while Sulzer has joined as an associate in the firm’s Yellowknife office.
Julia Bell and Jacqueline Gant have joined Roper Greyell LLP. Prior to joining the firm, Bell clerked for seven justices at the Supreme Court of British Columbia, and Gant practised at a large national firm in Vancouver.
Technology
Dr. Richard Sztramko has been appointed chief medical officer at Reliq Health Technologies Inc., a public technology company registered in B.C. that is focused on developing mobile health and telemedicine solutions for community-based health care. Sztramko practises geriatric and general internal medicine at hospitals in Hamilton, Ontario, where he will be based at Reliq Health’s operational headquarters. Prior to joining Reliq Health, he co-founded Virtual Ward, a startup focused on health care provider communication within hospitals, and created an online education tool for patients with dementia and their caregivers (iGeriCare).
Hats Off
Milani Plumbing, Drainage and Heating is the 2017 inductee into the Burnaby Business Hall of Fame, an honour bestowed jointly by the Burnaby Board of Trade and the City of Burnaby. The award is given to a widely recognized, Burnaby-based business that has demonstrated business success over many years and has had a positive and significant impact on the community. Family-owned Milani Plumbing has been serving Burnaby and the Lower Mainland for more than 60 years; it has nearly 100 employees.
Phoenix Truck and Crane Ltd. has donated $15,000 to Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation. The funds will support the purchase of a transport defibrillator monitor for the hospital.
The Provincial Employees Community Services Fund donated $30,000 to Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland. The funds will help the organization match at-risk girls with supportive mentors through its one-to-one mentoring program over the next three years.
Golfers, sponsors, donors and volunteers raised and donated $181,500 to the KidSafe Project, which provides safety, nutrition and educational programming during school breaks for 450 vulnerable children and youth. Funds were raised through participation in the 2017 BPS Wealth Management at CIBC Wood Gundy Golf for KidSafe Tournament. •
