BC Hydro's former head bean-counter is now officially the utility's CEO – a job he's held on an interim basis since former CEO Dave Cobb's hasty exit nearly a year ago.

BC Hydro chairman Dan Doyle announced Friday that Charles Reid has been appointed president and chief executive officer. Reid has been the utility's acting president and CEO since October 2011, after Cobb left the post just 16 months into the job to take a senior position with the Jim Pattison Group.

Prior to stepping into the CEO's role, Reid had served as Hydro's executive vice president of finance and chief financial officer. Prior to joining BC Hydro, Reid was group vice-president of finance and CFO for Canfor Corporation.

"Charles has served as our acting president and chief executive officer since last December," Doyle said. "He has demonstrated to me and the board that he is the kind of strong, steady leader we need at BC Hydro as we work to invest in British Columbia's energy future while keeping our rates affordable and competitive for our customers.

"He is taking on this leadership role at an exciting time in BC Hydro's history. We are making major investments in renewing our assets all across the province, advancing the addition of a significant new asset in the Site C clean energy project, modernizing our electricity grid and planning to meet growing demand for electricity in B.C. through conservation and clean, reliable power."
