Cabela’s will open its first British Columbia location in fall 2014, the outdoor specialty retailer announced October 24.
The company, which is based out of Sidney, Nebraska, will open a 50,000-square-foot store in Nanaimo in a former Canadian Tire location at the Dickinson Crossing Shopping Centre.
“As Cabela’s Canada continues to expand, we knew British Columbia, and especially the Nanaimo area, would be a great fit for a Cabela’s retail location,” said Tommy Millner, Cabela’s chief executive officer.
“The region is full of people who live the outdoor lifestyle and have supported Cabela’s through our catalog and online for many years.”
Cabela’s was founded in 1961 and currently has more than 40 locations across the United States, including one in Tulalip, Washington. The company has four stores in Canada – in Edmonton, Regina, Saskatoon and Winnipeg – and in addition to the Nanaimo location, is planning to open a second location in Edmonton and one in Barrie, Ontario.
