Coastal Contacts Inc. (TSX:COA) has launched a new line of eco-friendly eyeglasses, the company announced April 22, in honour of Earth Day 2014.
The new product line is called the Evergreen collection. The glasses are made with 95% recycled plastic and stainless steel. In addition, the company said, for every pair sold, a tree will be planted in a developing country.
“Being a good corporate citizen is a core value at Coastal, and we are constantly seeking new and innovative initiatives to give back to the community,” said Coastal Contacts CEO Roger Hardy.
“Our Evergreen collection and program has been a great success over the past three years, and we’re thrilled to be able to offer more styles in time for Earth Day.”
Coastal Contacts is the parent company of online eyewear sellers Coastal.com and ClearlyContacts.ca. On April 16, the company announced that it would be sold to France’s Essilor International for $430 million, pending court approval.
