BCTIA CEO Bill Tam welcomes 2013 federal budget for its support of business startup accelerator programs

The federal government’s newly released Economic Action Plan 2013 provides support for business acceleration programs, which will continue to help foster the knowledge economy in Canada, according to the British Columbia Technology Industry Association (BCTIA).

The federal budget provides for the following:

  • $60 million over five years to help accelerator and incubator programs to expand their services to entrepreneurs; and
  • an additional $100 million through the Business Development Bank of Canada to fund strategic partnerships between these accelerators and incubators and graduating firms.

“We congratulate the government for their support of Canada’s entrepreneurial talent and for programs like BCTIA’s Centre4Growth accelerator,” said BCTIA president and CEO Bill Tam.

“High-growth companies generate the level of resources and wealth necessary to further grow the company, expand export activities and attract much-needed skilled talent and investment, resulting in the growth of Canada’s economy.”
